Dr. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono is the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. She provides strategic leadership in coordinating the National Government’s legislative and policy agenda, strengthening collaboration between the Executive and Parliament.

In this role, Dr. Rono oversees the identification, prioritization and coordination of Government Bills and policies across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), while facilitating effective parliamentary liaison services. She also promotes inclusive public participation and stakeholder engagement in the policy and legislative process.

Dr. Rono holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration (Finance option) from the University of Kabianga, a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and a Bachelor of Education (Science) from Egerton University. She is a Certified Public Accountant, CPA (K), and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

With over 17 years of professional experience spanning public administration, academia, legislative governance and financial management, Dr. Rono brings a wealth of expertise to public service. Prior to her current appointment, she served as a lecturer at Maasai Mara University where she taught finance, accounting and management courses. She also served as a Nominated Member of the Bomet County Assembly (2013–2017), where she chaired the Budget and Appropriations Committee and contributed to the development of county fiscal policy and development planning.

Dr. Rono is also a published scholar whose research focuses on public finance management and capital market performance. Her academic work has appeared in reputable international journals.

Beyond public service, she is passionate about community empowerment, youth mentorship and leadership development. She has partnered with organizations such as World Vision Kenya to strengthen governance and financial management capacity among community-based organizations and cooperatives, and has served in leadership roles within the Kenya Red Cross Society as well as on boards of management in the education sector.
