Principal Secretary, State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono, CBS, joined national, county government leaders and residents of Bomet County for the national commemoration of Identity Day 2026, reaffirming the importance of legal identity in advancing inclusion, dignity and access to government services. Held at Green Stadium, Bomet County, the commemoration brought together government leaders and stakeholders under the theme “My Identity, My Shadow, Never Apart.” The theme emphasised the enduring link between legal identity and an individual’s ability to access rights, socioeconomic opportunities and essential public services. Dr Aurelia’s participation highlighted the importance of a coordinated government approach in ensuring that citizens are recognised, included and able to benefit from public services and opportunities. The national event was led by Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Dr Belio Kipsang. Speaking on the significance of legal identity, Dr Aurelia noted that identity goes beyond the possession of a document, serving as an important gateway to human rights, dignity, socioeconomic opportunities and access to essential government services. The commemoration provided an opportunity for government and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to strengthening systems that ensure every person can obtain legal identity and participate fully in national development. The theme, “My Identity, My Shadow, Never Apart,” underscores the inseparable relationship between an individual and their legal identity, while drawing attention to the need for inclusive systems that leave no one behind.
